This window was designed and created by Messrs Edmondson and Son of Angel Street Manchester in 1856 and especially commissioned for the new chancel.

The chancel (donated by the Stanley family)was completed in 1856, 6 years after the 1st Lord Stanley died. It replaced a much smaller chancel which was very probably the original Chapel of Ease.

It was designed by architects Cuffley and Edward Starkey. Starkey lived at ‘The Heyes’, Heyes Lane, Alderley Edge.

In a letter from Henrietta Maria Stanley (2nd Lord Stanley’s wife) to Maria Josepha Stanley (1st Lord Stanley’s wife)

“The chancel is begun I believe. There is to be a new approach to the vault, seats in the chancel, rails, vestry, and other trifles. The whole comes to £778”
